A shocking incident unfolded yesterday at Nnamdi Azikiwe University when a 300-level student of History and International Studies physically attacked a lecturer, leaving him injured.
The fiasco began when the student was creating a TikTok video at an office entrance, and the lecturer politely tapped her to pass. However, the student perceived this as disrespect and responded aggressively.
The situation escalated when the lecturer backpedaled and calmly requested that she delete the video, which had captured his face. The undergraduate became enraged, attacking the lecturer and tearing his shirt.
Witnesses reported that the student’s audacity stemmed from her mother being a lecturer in one of the university’s departments.
This disturbing incident raises concerns about students’ behaviour and the need for respect in academic environments. Some netizens are of the opinion that social media has negatively influenced Gen Z, leading to their untamed and aggressive outbursts toward innocent people and elders alike.
