It’s a woman-supporting-woman affair as Mrs. Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, former first lady and wife of the late governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has drummed support for Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan over her recent confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The late Akeredolu’s wife alluded to the activities in the House of Senate as the “Assemblage of Boys’ Brigade,” where the men look for tactics to silence the audible voices of their female counterparts.
Mrs. Akeredolu wrote in a post she made on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Senator Natasha should forge ahead with any action that will help address the salient issues directly affecting her in the House of Senate.
She added that the political situation in this country is in shambles and that men see themselves as the only key players while women with the potential to lead and effect change are subjugated in the scheme of things.
Her words:
โItโs disheartening how our female senators are being humiliated at the National Assembly. I had read about the travails of Senator Kingibe and now, Senator Natasha. The altercation between Senate President Akpabio and Senator Natasha vindicates our position that men in this country are not willing to โshiftโ for our women to partake in the governance of Nigeria.
This assemblage of โBoys Brigadeโ at the national and state assemblies wants to provoke us to justify their archaically held belief that women lack the emotional temperament required for high political office.
Hell no! It wonโt work this time!! Now, we know why we donโt hear our female legislators talk. We donโt see them present bills. Nothing, nothing. Meanwhile, we complain that they are bench warmers. Trophy legislators. Now we know better. Go Natasha, nothing do you!!! Voice out your frustration for the whole world to know what the few female legislators are going through in Nigeria.โ
