The supporters of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central Senatorial District had filed in unity
to stage a protest in support of their own before the commencement of the plenary session that was alleged to have proposed to seat over Natasha’s suspension.
The protesters were reported to have gathered in the morning of Wednesday, the 5th of March 2025, at the assembly gate around 8:00 a.m., minutes ahead of the resumption of the plenary.
In a bid to ward them off, the police employed the use of tear gas canisters to make the citadel impregnable to the protesters.
The dispersed protesters took solace in the Unity Fountain, a common site for protests in the capital city.
The protest was a ripple effect of the brazen confession of Senator Natasha that the Senate President had asked her to share a bed with him, which she gracefully turned down. Senator Natasha alleged that her refusal was the straw that broke the camel’s back and orchestrated a change in the Senate President’s personality towards her.
To that effect, Akpoti-Uduaghan will answer to the Senate’s probes as summoned by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions at 2 p.m. today.
