First Lady, Her Excellency, Mrs. Remi Tinubu, has addressed the lingering scandal in the House of Assembly. For days, the brazen confession of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has given folks the benefit of hindsight into the happenings in the Senate that the public has no grasp of. Her Excellency opined that the Senate, also known as The Red Chamber, is a โmature institution that must be treated with respect”.
Her speech came prior to the International Womenโs First Lady event, where she had a rendezvous with some journalists.
Mrs. Tinubu staged a wall of defense for the Senate in the ongoing controversy of sexual harassment. She jettisoned the ideas of those who seemed to be in opposition to the way the Senate has handled the case, especially with the suspension and no payment attached. Expressing her thoughts, she said the lawmakers of the Red Chamber are โdoing what is needful.โ
โI know with what is going on in the Senate, you may say, why am I not taking oppositions? I believe that the Senate is doing what is needful, because thatโs what it is. Itโs an inside place, and itโs a mature chamber.
We shouldnโt be hearing things like that. Itโs a mature chamber, and it should be treated with respect. Itโs an honor for you to be in that place alone.
โI was there for 12 years, even in my younger days, and Iโm still trying to look young, but people compliment you all the time. Only that, women raise yourselves; donโt be in a position that men will be talking to you anyhow. You can always shut them down before they start.โ
