Nigerian celebrities and feminists have come under the brutal derision of activist and Afrobeat artiste Seun Kuti for their maintenance of neutrality in the Akpabio/Natasha ongoing controversy.
Trending for weeks is the alleged sexual harassment carried out on Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, hence his alleged refusal to uphold Natasha’s motion regarding the Ajaokuta Steel Complex.
In response, Seun Kuti, in an Instagram live session, declared his unwavering support for Senator Natasha, directing reproach at Nigerian feminists and celebrities. In his words, he expected them to massively throw their weight behind Natasha as they did for Sophia during Burna Boy’s Lamborghini brouhaha, and for Annie when TuFace announced their divorce.
Seun Kuti said:
โAbout the sexual harassment case in the Senate, I stand with the Senator [Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan] 100 percent.”
โBecause she isnโt even the first one to make such an allegation [against the Senate President]. Itโs appalling that all these so-called women activists are quiet.”
“They have something to say about Burna Boyโs alleged reneged promise to Sophia Egbueje but shy away from important mattersโฆ”
“These kinds of things cannot continue in this country. What that woman [Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan] is saying is very serious. And the celebrities will not come out to support her in this kind of matter, the way everybody had something to say to defend Annie against 2Face.”
โMany of these celebrities, especially Nollywood actors and actresses, are benefiting from the government through fraudulent grants, so they can never come out to speak on this kind of matterโฆ. I canโt openly protest to demand justice for Natasha, but I implore Nigerian women to support her.โ
