In a video shared by Viable Television, Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio recounted how he once confronted a lecturer during his university days as a Student Union Leader.
In a pragmatic attempt to exonerate himself from the sexual harassment allegations leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, Akpabio explained a bold step he took by confronting a lecturer and warning him of the possible consequences if he unjustly failed a student.
Heeding his words, the lecturer, who would later meet Akpabio at an event, told him how he gave the said student a B in her grade. Comically, Akpabio asked why he didn’t make it an A.
Godswill Akpabio reiterated that some lecturers can be so callous in their actions that they unfairly make female students fail due to their refusal to engage in sexual relations. According to him, some also withhold the results of their students to compel them into their offices, where they reveal the unthinkable.
“As a student union leader, I had the occasion to walk into a professorโs office and warn him, ‘You will see what will happen if this girl does not pass your course.’ After passing the girl, he came down to see me and said, ‘Go and ask her; she has a B+. And I said, why didnโt you give her an A?'”
The Senate President maintained that from his university days as a leader, he has always been a strong advocate for womenโs rights and will continue to support them for as long as he lives to serve his countrymen.
