Something is cooking politically as Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran Jandor, the Lagos State PDP Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2023 general election, paid a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Jandor, who recently dumped the People’s Democratic Party for an undisclosed political platform, was reportedly said to have visited His Excellency in Aso Rock for a confidential-themed meeting between the hours of 2 PM and 4 PM.
While there is no official report on the essence of their meeting yet, certain thoughts have aroused the curiosity of Nigerians, with some sharing opinions on the possibility of Jandor attempting to romanticize his way into gaining political momentum by procuring the APC membership form.
Recall that Jandor, who discarded the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on the grounds of โindiscipline and anti-party activities,โ was formerly a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before his defection to the PDP, where he took up the gubernatorial slot in the last 2023 general election.
Jandor expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party, stating unequivocally that the party’s leadership disappointed him on the eve of the election. He mentioned that he had a profound chance of winning the election, but a false claim of alliance caused PDP supporters in Lagos to vote for another candidate, an error that cost him the Lagos State gubernatorial seat.
The election result that declared Sanwo-Olu as the winner has its figures presented in this manner:
Jide Sanwo-Olu (APC) : 762,134 votes
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (LP): 312,329
Jandor (PDP): 62,449.
Jandor embodied in his resignation letter the following statements:
โI am here before you today without a heavy heart and a clear conscience. We have dedicated ourselves to the ideals of democracy โ both good governance and the pursuit of a better Lagos,โ he said
โHowever, it has become evident that the leadership of the PDP, both at the national and state levels, has failed to uphold its principles.
โWe will consult widely with everybody and then take the decision to collapse our structure to another platform. The major thing now is that we have left the PDP.โ
While some fraction of Nigerians are racking their brains on the rationale for the meeting, others have maintained certainty that Jandor is playing a smart political game especially with his recent meetings with prominent men and political gladiators like Ibrahim Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar who are both former heads of state, and Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president and senior officials of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
