Reno Omokri certainly never runs out of controversial discourses, as the author and columnist has again stirred up controversies, this time fingering the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as men who would rather engage in a fight-to-the-death kind of political game to see their ambitions come to fruition.
Omokri wrote that the APC cooperated in 2015 because President Bola Tinubu was willing to allow Buhari contest before him, a move he doesn’t seem to see in Obi and El-Rufai due to abundance of ego and the unspoken “who-is-who” mantra. Omokri believed that another party might sailed through if both parties come together to push out a single candidate that will run against Tinubu in 2023 but, vccording to Omokri, neither Obi nor El-Rufai would do such.
Omokri also hinted that El-Rufai’s decision to join the SDP was borne out of a desire to run for the 2027 general election, and thatbid not so, he (El-Rufai) would have opted for a more mainstream party rather than a platform where he can easily take over the party, as Obi did with the Labour Party in 2023.

“2027: Ego Will Be The Undoing of Peter Obi and el-Rufai
These guys are too ego-led to have a successful coalition. The APC collaboration worked in 2015 because Asiwaju Tinubu was willing to suppress his ambition for Buhari to go first.
Who of these guys will be willing to sacrifice their ambition for the other? El-Rufai will not accept playing second fiddle to Obi and vice versa.
Nasir chose the SDP because he wants to run in 2027. If he had not wanted to run, he would have joined a more mainstream party. He wants to carry out a hostile takeover of the SDP, as Obi did with Labour in 2023.
Peter Obi is also donating money left, right, and centre for this purpose.
They don’t like each other, and they are not strategic enough to collapse their structures for the benefit of a consensus candidate, be it them or someone else. Neither of them will be willing to do the commonsensical thing and step down for the other, which means they will cancel out the other.
President Tinubu would still handily defeat them at the polls regardless of their plots. But I do not think it will even get to that. My postulation is that their egos will defeat them before the election and that they will only run, if at all, just to have standing to contest the results on the courts”
