The women from the Kalabari tribe of Rivers State are not taking it lightly with Nyesom Wike, as they took to the streets, destroying any Wike-featured billboards found in the area while simultaneously placing barricades to deny the Minister access to their community.
The chaos, which took place on Saturday, March 15, 2025, saw an angry mob of women tearing apart the billboards that were erected a few miles from the entrance to Abalama, where the Ijaw stakeholders had planned an aesthetic welcome in honor of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
In their proactiveness, the women stormed the protest ground donned in black robes and white scarves while placing barricades on the route leading to Abalama and bearing placards with various inscriptions such as “Kalabari, take your stand now!” and “Wike, what do you want in Kalabari land?”
The placards, alongside their inscriptions and the barricades, were all acts channeled toward preventing Wike and his entourage from a graceful and gallant arrival into the community.
As their actions intensified, Wike’s security personnel stepped in by dispersing the protesters and removing all barricades placed in the way before proceeding to the Abalama community, where the reception was earlier scheduled.
