In a lamentation, Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has opened up about a political sidelining of his duties as the democratic vice president of the country, which is now being carried out by Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son.
Kashim Shettima expressed concerns over how he has never truly felt like a vice president, owing largely to the fact that his roles and responsibilities are being executed by the son of the president, Seyi.
“I have never truly felt like the Vice President of Nigeria. While I should be handling key responsibilities, Tinubuโs son has taken over my work,โ Shettima reportedly stated.
The vice president voiced his intentions to tender his resignation several times over the lack of recognition given to him as the second most powerful person in the country. Shettima alleged that his position as the vice president of the country is a pragmatic move by the president to hold down the north, while Tinubu’s son, Seyi continues to carry out his duties.
Speaking further, Shettima stated that the North is experiencing marginalization in the nation presently, and further compounding this is the tactical usurpation of his position as Vice President by Seyi Tinubu, rendering him, the democratically elected Vice President, ineffective and dysfunctional.
โI have, on several occasions, considered resigning as Vice President so the world can see Tinubu for who he truly is. Placing me in this position merely to hold the North in place while your son carries out my duties is nothing short of a mockery,โ he added.
