Massive defection hits the SDP as the party’s vice presidential candidate during the 2023 general election, Engr. Yusuf Buhari, officially switched party to the All Progressive Congress.
Engr. Yusuf Buhari would later be joined by the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Kano State, Mr. Mohammed Gwagwarwa, Kano State Working Committee members, 38 local government chairmen and secretaries, 13 House of Assembly members, and 6 House of Representatives candidates.
It was alleged that the mammoth carpet-crossing, which took place yesterday in Abuja, was greatly influenced to a large extent by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Baraul Jibrin.
Senator Baraul Jibrin, while addressing the gathering, described the actions of those cajoling people to jettison the APC and unite forces with the SDP as “dead on arrival.”
โThose who have been trying to woo people to the SDP with the hope of challenging the APC in the next elections should know that the idea is dead on arrival,โ Jibrin declared. โToday, the Vice Presidential candidate, the Kano governorship candidate, and other key SDP figures have joined the APC.
“The party is going to be empty,โ Jibrin noted.
Speaking further, Jibrin commended the Tinubu-led administration and its efforts in ensuring that the prices of commodities are stabilized and inflation crashed drastically.
“We can see how prices are going down and inflation is easing. I am glad that this progress motivated you to join the APC.โ
Commenting on the new development, the partyโs National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, represented by Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, noted that the opposition party members’ defection is from โdarkness to light,โ reiterating that Nigeria’s long-awaited transformation is within the party under Tinubu’s leadership.
โThe APC is home to all who seek genuine national development. We are proud to welcome political heavyweights with grassroots appeal into our fold,โ Ganduje said.
