10 Dead, Over 30 Injured in Karu Bridge Explosion
The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has confirmed that 10 people lost their lives in the tragic truck explosion that occurred at Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway.
According to Mr. Mark Nyam, Head of Forecasting, Response, and Mitigation at FEMD, the victims’ bodies were deposited at different hospitals: Eight at Karu Hospital Morgue; One at Asokoro District Hospital Morgue; and One at National Hospital, Abuja
Over 30 people suffered severe burns, with many transferred to Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre Keffi, and Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja for specialized treatment.
At least 10 vehicles were burnt in the explosion, which occurred after a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck lost control and crashed into other vehicles.
Following a visit to the accident scene, the Acting Director General of FEMD, Engr. Abdulrahman Mohammed, urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules and avoid reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, and poor vehicle maintenance.
He also reminded FCT residents to use the 112 emergency toll-free number to report accidents and other emergencies promptly.
Emergency responders continue rescue and recovery operations, as authorities investigate the cause of the explosion.
