The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued the presidency over the unlawful suspension of Governor Fubara and the imposition of a state of emergency in the state.
The information was disclosed by the group on Sunday morning, the 23rd of March 2025, via X, detailing that the suit was initiated by members of the SERAP volunteer lawyersโ network in the state.
The notification on X reads as follows:
“BREAKING: Weโve sued President Tinubu over the clearly unlawful suspension of Fubara and Rivers lawmakers. The suit is brought by members of the SERAP volunteer lawyersโ network in the state. Democracy works best when everyone participates.”
The latest development is the ripple effect of Governor Fubara’s suspension and the state of emergency that was imposed on the state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following a prolonged political crisis that featured Wike and the state’s governor.
In the wake of the suspension, the presidency has appointed Vice Admiral Ibas to take over tentatively for six months to avoid rendering the state interregnum.
