The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking, arresting a 42-year-old Indian woman attempting to smuggle heroin into Nigeria.
According to The Peoples’ Insight, the suspect was apprehended at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, during the inward clearance of Qatar Airways flight QR1431 from Bangkok, Thailand, via Vietnam and Doha, on Friday, March 14.

Confirming the arrest in a statement on Sunday, March 24, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, revealed that the illicit substance—sealed in water wraps and deceptively packaged as chocolates—totaled 72 parcels, weighing 11 kilograms.
“A bid that vigilant NDLEA operatives have consistently frustrated with the aid of modern technological tools and proactive intelligence,” Babafemi stated.
This arrest comes just days after another operation on Tuesday, March 17, in which NDLEA operatives seized 424 bottles of codeine-based syrup from a woman in the Lungun Bulala Yalwa area of Kano State.
The NDLEA remains resolute in its fight against drug smuggling, ensuring that traffickers are brought to justice and illegal substances are kept off the streets.
