A heavy rainfall has left a devastating impact on the lives of the residents of Apalara community in Ilorin.
The rain which fell heavily, unleashed mayhem by causing destruction to homes, businesses, and infrastructure facilities like electricity.
Huge losses are being suffered by the resident businessmen and students of Al-Hikmah University, who have complained of incessant power outages.
A resident identified as Mrs. Rukkayat Jimoh reported on the devastating rainfall and the negative impact it had on her shop and business.
“The wind was so strong that it pulled off my shop’s roof. I couldn’t salvage anything because it happened so fast. Now, I have to start all over again.”
Another victim of the havoc said:
“You know we have been praying for this rain for very long because we did not experience it earlier like neighbouring states. But it was sad it came with heavy rainstorm. My house was badly damaged. The wall collapsed and we have been left without power since then. We don’t know when electricity will be restored.”
“Those who know this area will tell you that we are among few places with constant electricity. This is because of the presence of our school and other businesses.”
The residents of Apalara community in Ilorin, Kwara State, have, however, called on the state government to help salvage the situation and assist in the possible restoration of power supply.
Many who were left internally displaced by the rain have also appealed to the government for the provision of relief materials and possibly shelter.
