A clergyman, identified as Elijah, the General Overseer of a new-generation church in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, has been arrested by the police over allegations of homosexuality and sexual misconduct.
According to reports, the pastor landed in trouble after a leaked nude video of him surfaced online. It was gathered that he had allegedly made advances toward a man, who, in an attempt to gather evidence, played along and secretly recorded him engaging in intimate acts and making sexual demands.
A source, who requested anonymity, confirmed the incident to *PUNCH*, stating:
“We don’t know how the Octopus Strike Force of the Rivers State Police Command obtained the video, but they began trailing the pastor. He is from Rivers State, and during their investigation, officers, acting on credible intelligence, tracked him to one of his usual relaxation spots and apprehended him.”
Further reports indicate that the pastor is also being investigated for alleged sexual encounters with minors. He is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the cleric was taken into custody last Friday and has since been charged to court.
“Yes, I can confirm the pastor’s arrest. He is in custody and under investigation. In fact, he has already been charged to court,” she said.
