Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 56 harrowing days in captivity.
Tsiga was abducted on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, alongside nine others, sparking nationwide concern.
Despite his family’s payment of a staggering N180 million ransom, his release was delayed for weeks, leading to heightened tension. A family member disclosed that after the ransom was delivered, there was no word from the kidnappers for a week. It wasn’t until March 11, 2025, that they finally heard Tsiga’s voice in a phone call.
Shockingly, the abductors demanded additional money, but the family refused to comply. Reports indicate that Tsiga was initially held in Zamfara State before being moved to Abuja, where he was eventually freed.
A top military source confirmed that the retired general is in good health following his release.
Tsiga’s abduction and prolonged captivity underscore the worsening security crisis in Nigeria, with many calling for more decisive action against the rising wave of kidnappings.
