The newly enthroned Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has revealed his plans to the Oyo elders and general public.
Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade noted that part of his first moves will be the renovation of the palace of the Alaafin, which has spanned over 200 years.
Speaking on Saturday, Oba Owoade, who strikes many as highly sophisticated with a dignified sense of beauty, hinted that the palace needs a facelift.
He, however, assured the people of Oyo that the construction will not alter the traditions and culture for which the Oyo empire is known.
The Alaafin made his intentions known during a Nigerian Tribune-led interview on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
โIf you have been to the Aafin, you will agree with me that it needs some repairs. Some new buildings need to be constructed, and some need to be renovated. โWe are looking at reconstructing the palace without compromising the standard, culture and tradition,โ
I was in Canada when my familyโthe Mogajisโcalled and asked if I wanted to participate in the contest for the next Alaafin. I said I was not interested,โ he said. โBut after some persuasion, I gave in. Thank God I am here today as the Alaafin, and I am in Oyo to stay.โ
