The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation after a viral video surfaced online showing two of its officers receiving cash from two Chinese nationals.
The video, which has sparked widespread conversation on social media, captures the moment a Chinese man and woman—reportedly employers of the officers—count mint one-thousand-naira notes and hand over five thousand naira each to the uniformed men.
In response to the growing controversy, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, released an official statement condemning the act. He described the conduct of the officers as both unprofessional and unethical, asserting that their actions do not reflect the values and standards upheld by the Nigeria Police Force.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognizance of a disturbing video making rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national. The Force has strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by the police officers in the video, describing it as unprofessional and unethical,” the statement read in part.
Adejobi emphasized that the actions of the officers contradict the established ethics and core values of the Force, which maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of misconduct that could erode public trust.
He further revealed that the officers involved have been identified and are currently facing disciplinary procedures.
The Force also issued a caution to individuals and organizations employing the services of police personnel—particularly for escort or guard duties—urging them to avoid actions that could compromise the integrity of the officers or tarnish the image of the Force.
Public opinion on the incident remains divided. While some believe the money could have been a harmless token of appreciation from employer to employee, others argue it might have been a bribe disguised as a gift.
