Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately cut short his ongoing retreat in France and return home to confront the escalating wave of insecurity sweeping across Nigeria.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, Obi expressed deep concern over what he described as the “apparent absence of governance,” as violent attacks and killings continue to surge in multiple regions of the country.
“In the two weeks you have been away, over 150 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity across the nation, particularly in Plateau and Zamfara States,” Obi stated.
He further highlighted the repeated pipeline explosions in the Niger Delta and a disturbing resurgence of insurgent activities in Borno State as signs that Nigeria is in a dire state.
Criticizing the President’s overseas retreat, Obi remarked, “Amid all these tragedies, the CEO of the troubled enterprise called Nigeria is retreating in a faraway land in France.”
Obi’s remarks come at a time when public outrage is growing over the government’s perceived inaction and silence in the face of mounting security threats. Many citizens have echoed the call for urgent and decisive leadership to restore order and stability.
