The Federal Government has announced that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, located in Minna, Niger State, will resume official duties on the 23rd of April, 2025.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made the announcement via an X post on Thursday.
“The Niger State Government, in partnership with Overland Airways, proudly announces the commencement of flight operations from the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, starting April 23rd, 2025.โ
The announcement of the resumption of operations at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport follows a nominal alteration carried out in March 2024 by the Governor of Niger State, Umar Bago, where the Abubakar Imam International Airport in Minna, originally named after a renowned Nigerian state writer and journalist, was renamed to honor President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is the formerly known Abubakar Imam International Airport.
In a statement, the Niger State Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Aminu Takuma, said the change was made to honour the Presidency’s support in the state.
Also speaking, Joke Olatunji, Director of Airport Operations at FAAN, stated that renaming airports is part of the aviation sector’s needed elevation and a way to honour notable figures.
According to him, airport rebranding is part of the government’s ongoing aviation sector reform efforts, mentioning that in 2023, the government named 15 airports after prominent Nigerians, including former President Muhammadu Buhari and the late Tunde Idiagbon, as part of a national recognition initiative to honour the nation’s heroes past.
