Tragedy unfolded in Ilesha Baruba in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State when six terrorists clad in military uniforms stormed the community, killing six residents.
Reports gathered revealed that the terrorists were fully armed with sophisticated ammunition and wore military camouflage as they unleashed terror on the residents of the community moments after the IshaโI prayer on Monday.
After carrying out their dastardly act, what residents couldn’t reconcile was their access to military uniforms and the sophisticated ammunition with which they accomplished their mission. This newest development has sent fears through the residents of the community.
Umar Faruq, an eyewitness who had escaped the jaws of death by sheer luck, detailed to security personnel that the terrorists carried out their mission in the most organized and deliberate manner.
The use of military uniforms have raised concerns with many alleging that the terrorists are working collaboratively with some military personnels.
This terrorist attack in Kwara community has communicated lengthily the shaky grounds that Nigeria is standing with regards to security.
Further reports submitted the Kwara State Police Division is yet to give an official statement regarding the killing of six, use of military uniforms to perpetrate crimes, and assurance of security and stability in Kwara north and Kwara State at large.
โThey came in soldier uniforms. At first, we thought they were here for security patrol, but within minutes, they opened fire on innocent people. It was like a war scene. People were screaming, running for their lives,โ he recounted.” โ Umar Faruq.
The traditional titleholder of the area, Turaki of Ilesha Baruba, who also confirmed the incident, condemned the killings and described the attack as a direct assault on the peace and sovereignty of the community.
โThis is not just an attack on individuals. Itโs a message to us all that we are not safe. Our people are living in fear now. We call on the government to act fast,โ he said.
