President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Nigeria on Monday, April 21, 2025, after a 19-day trip to France and the United Kingdom.
The presidency described the visit as a “working retreat” aimed at reviewing his administration’s mid-term performance and planning ahead of his second anniversary in office.
However, his extended absence sparked criticism from opposition leaders and citizens, especially in light of escalating insecurity in various parts of the country. Notably, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi called for Tinubu’s immediate return to address the security challenges. Obi highlighted that over 150 Nigerians lost their lives during the president’s time abroad, particularly in Plateau and Zamfara states.
In response, the presidency assured Nigerians that President Tinubu remained fully engaged with national governance during his trip, maintaining regular communication with top government officials and issuing directives to security agencies.
As President Tinubu resumes duties in Abuja, the nation watches closely to see how his administration will tackle the pressing security issues and address the concerns raised during his absence
