Nigerian social media activist, VeryDarkMan, has responded defiantly to the seven-day ultimatum issued by the All Progressives Congress (APC), demanding he apologise for criticising Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s attendance at the funeral of Pope Francis.
In a video posted on Monday, VeryDarkMan refused to apologise to Akpabio or the APC, instead offering a heartfelt apology to Nigerians affected by insecurity. His comments came after he publicly condemned Akpabio for embarking on what he called “a shameful political trip” while violence continues to ravage communities across the country.
“First of all, I want to apologise to the people of Benue, Jos, Kwara, Enugu, Ogun, and Edo State,” he said. “To the people who have suffered from insurgency and insecurity due to the failures of our leaders. Leaders who abandon their own people—who are being slaughtered on their farmlands—just to travel abroad and attend funerals of people who never even knew they existed. And all for political optics.”
VeryDarkMan added, “Since these irresponsible leaders won’t apologise, I will do it on their behalf. People are dying, hundreds killed, and you give me seven days to apologise? Even the President hasn’t made a statement, but you have the audacity to come for me?”
In a bold counterattack, the activist issued his own ultimatum to the government—demanding a swift and effective response to the ongoing violence perpetrated by armed herdsmen across Benue, Jos, and Enugu within seven days.
His unapologetic stance has reignited online debates around leadership priorities and the widening trust gap between Nigerian citizens and their elected officials.
