Plateau State has been thrown into mourning moments after one of its former deputy governors, Sonnie Gwanle Tyoden, passed on.
Tyoden, who served under Senator Simon Lalong from 2015 to 2023, was reported to have died in the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) on Sunday; however, the cause of his death was not disclosed to the public.
The news of his death was confirmed to the public by his former Chief of Staff, Silas Vem, via a telephone interview with The Sun Nigeria.
According to reports, Tyoden took ill last year and was rushed to JUTH on Thursday, where he later gave up the ghost.
At his death, he is survived by his wife and four children.
Expressing condolences, the former Governor and Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong, said the news of Tyoden’s death was received with shock and disbelief. According to him, he has lost a confidant, friend, partner, and trusted political ally, confidant, teacher and mentor who served with him diligently during the tenure of the All Progressives Congress Rescue Administration.
A delegation of some former members of Lalong’s cabinet was led on a condolence visit to the residence of the deceased in Rayfield Jos by Senator Lalong to commiserate with his family over the irreplaceable loss.
