The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as *VeryDarkMan*, over what it describes as “grave allegations of financial malfeasance.”
According to an official statement released by the agency, Otse was invited for questioning after the EFCC received multiple petitions accusing him of financial misconduct. However, the commission alleges that he repeatedly ignored formal invitations sent to his known addresses and communication channels.
“He refused to honor our invitations despite several attempts to reach him,” the statement read.
Amid growing public scrutiny and widespread social media reactions, the EFCC has called for calm and urged Nigerians to avoid jumping to conclusions. The agency emphasized that Otse’s arrest was strictly based on the allegations leveled against him and not connected to his public criticism of the commission.

“The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favor,” the agency said. “Investigations are ongoing, and charges will be filed once the process is complete.”
The commission also confirmed that a valid remand order was obtained to detain Otse while investigations continue. He has, however, been offered administrative bail and can regain his freedom upon meeting the stipulated conditions.
