The Nigerian Army has announced that troops from the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Fasin Yaki, eliminated 21 terrorists on Friday during a raid in Ruwan Godiya, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the military said the troops launched an assault on a known terrorist hideout, resulting in a fierce gunfight. The insurgents were overpowered and fled the scene, with several reportedly drowning in a nearby river during the pursuit.
The operation resulted in the seizure of a substantial cache of weapons and equipment, including various rifles, magazines, explosives, communication gadgets, mobile phones, and several motorcycles believed to be used for rapid movements and attacks.
โThe troops engaged the terrorists in a heavy firefight, compelling them to abandon their hideout and flee. In the follow-up chase, 21 terrorists were neutralized, some of whom drowned while attempting to escape,โ the military reported.
โA significant quantity of arms and ammunition was also recovered, including rifles, explosives, communication tools, mobile phones, and motorcycles,โ the statement added
โThe main thrust of the attack targeted the Brigade, prompting the swift deployment of air support to assist ground forces.”
โAfter approximately two hours of intense engagement, the terrorists were forced to retreat after suffering casualties.
โAlthough an ammunition storage area was hit during the exchange, it was quickly brought under control with no further escalation.โ
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by the military to combat armed groups operating in Nigeriaโs northwest. Earlier on Friday, around 1 a.m., troops from Operation Hadin Kai reportedly engaged a group of ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State with sustained indirect fire.
