A catastrophic flood struck Mokwa community in Niger State late last night, claiming lives and leaving a trail of destruction.
Emerging reports indicated that over 50 houses were submerged, and numerous residents swept away in what has been mouthed as the most severe flooding the area has witnessed in years.
Authorities have so far recovered 21 bodies, with rescue operations still ongoing amid concerns that more people remain missing.
According to eyewitnesses, heavy downpour led to a sudden surge of floodwaters that flooded residential neighborhoods while many were asleep. Families were torn apart, and entire homes were carried off by the violent currents.
The disaster has left hundreds displaced, with affected residents now taking refuge in schools, mosques, and other public shelters.
