Operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have apprehended Levi Obieze, a native doctor widely known by the alias “E de play, e de show.”
According to emerging reports, Obieze who was declared wanted by the Enugu State Police Command in connection with serious allegations involving kidnapping and ritual killings was eventually nabbed when he was trying to escape.
Obieze, notorious for flaunting his wealth and spraying money at public gatherings, had reportedly gone into hiding with his four wives. He was arrested at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road in Lagos State while attempting to escape the country on a motorcycle.
The NIS confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Thursday, May 29, by its spokesperson, Akinsola Akinlabi. The statement, posted on the agencyโs official social media handle, read in part:
โThrough credible intelligence, Obi Levi Obieze was apprehended by vigilant men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Border Patrol Command, at Gbaji checkpoint along Badagry-Seme Road while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle.”
Obieze’s arrest follows public outcry in the Umuojor, Umumba Ndiagu community of Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, where two decomposing bodies were discovered in a septic tank within his compound.
The shocking discovery was linked to the recent abduction of a young girl on Monday, May 26, while she was walking to the farm with her father.
A local source recounted the incident:
โShe was walking with her father to the farm on Monday when two men riding on a motorcycle stopped and pretended that their motorcycle had developed faults.
โOne of the men told the father of the little girl to please help them with his cutlass to use and fix the fault in the motorcycle, which the man obliged. They said the fault would require pushing the bike and begged him to help. It was in this process that one of the men grabbed the girl and jumped onto the motorcycle, and they zoomed off.”
Following an alarm raised by the father, the local vigilante group launched a search operation.
Later that evening, villagers reported hearing cries coming from a nearby bush close to Obiezeโs residence. Acting on this lead, the vigilantes approached the compound, where Obieze allegedly tried to block their entry.
The vigilante group eventually overpowered him, searched the premises, and rescued the abducted girl.
A further search led to the grim discovery of the decomposing bodies of two pregnant women hidden in separate septic tanks, triggering outrage across the community.
