Women from Nigeriaโs North Central region have called on President Bola Tinubu and his administration to respect the rights of all citizens, especially Nigerian women.
They expressed concern over what they described as the gradual erosion of the rights of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate.
According to them, her grievances, protests, and appeals are being wrongly treated as subversive rather than being addressed with the seriousness and urgency they deserve.
In a statement issued in Lafia, the women warned that the lawsuit filed against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan could be misinterpreted as an act of political intimidation targeting women. They advised the Federal Government not to create grounds that could encourage political instability or lawlessness.
The group also urged President Tinubu to ensure that the 10th Senate is governed justly and responsibly. They called on him to thoroughly investigate the matter involving Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The statement, signed by Mrs. Mary Adamu, Chairperson of the North Central Women Front (NCWF), described the Federal Governmentโs legal action as an ill-advised move that resembles a quest for domination rather than a path to national stability, patriotism, or morality.
They cautioned the President against yielding to the dangerous temptation of oppressing women and emphasized the importance of wisdom, public accountability, and fairness.
The group specifically urged him to instruct the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to immediately withdraw the lawsuit.
The women called for genuine reconciliation and raised concerns about the moral implications of the issue. They also commended Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for her integrity and criticized what they described as shameful conflict resolution tactics and the violent conduct of certain powerful men in the country.
