The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly announced his intention to lead the re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
This bold declaration serves as a direct rebuttal to critics who have questioned his political loyalty and stance, particularly those who express skepticism over his alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC) while still identifying as a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking during a media chat held in Abuja on Monday, June 2, Wike stated unequivocally that he would not only support President Tinubuโs bid for a second term, but would also take the lead in mobilizing support and galvanizing efforts to ensure a successful campaign.
In a pointed reflection on the 2023 general elections, Wike predicted a dramatic shift in voter sentiment within the FCT. He expressed confidence that President Tinubu would significantly outperform his previous showing in the territory, where he garnered less than 10 percent of the votes.
According to Wike, the coming election would see a reversal of that outcome, suggesting that the political tide in the capital was poised to turn strongly in Tinubuโs favor under his leadership
