Earlier today, the Delta State Commissioner For Youth Development, Barr. Trakiriowei Harry ThankGod , visited Kwale in Ndokwa West Local Government Area in an effort to engage directly with protesting youths and initiate a peaceful dialogue on the issues being raised. His intention, as always, was to listen, understand, and work toward meaningful resolutions in line with the values of inclusive governance.
Unfortunately, the situation was tense, and his peace mission was met with aggression. The youths and some residents rejected the call for dialogue and denied him access to a nearby hotel where a meeting was scheduled to hold. In the course of this encounter, his vehicle was vandalized, he was doused with water, and objects, including bottles, were thrown at him.
While the circumstances were regrettable, he remain undeterred in his commitment to youth development and peaceful engagement. As a government, we are fully aware of the concerns being raised, particularly those regarding electricity and security in the area. He assure the good people of Kwale and all Deltans that these matters have been brought before our youth-friendly Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori , and concrete steps have already commenced to address the Issue.
It is also important to state, based on available intelligence and developments on ground, that the ongoing protest appears to be politically sponsored.
While our youths have a right to peaceful protest, it is disheartening to see them being used as tools for disruption. He strongly urge our young people not to allow themselves to be drawn into activities that do not serve the long-term interest of the community.
The Delta State Government, under the MORE Agenda, remains committed to engaging with our youths and ensuring that their voices are heard — but only through peaceful, constructive channels.
Together, we can build a safer, stronger, and more united Delta State.
