On Monday, June 16, 2025, the youths of Ndokwa communities in Delta State, Nigeria, staged a mass protest under the banner “Light Up Ndokwa.”
The protest was a coordinated outcry against decades of neglect, particularly the lack of access to electricity in the oil-rich region.
Despite contributing significantly to Nigeria’s energy production through gas and oil resources, many Ndokwa communities, including the town of Kwale, remain disconnected from the national grid, enduring blackouts and erratic power supply that have stunted local development.
However, security operatives were stationed at different strategic points with the intent of sabotaging the youths’ planned protest.
A viral clip circulating around the internet has dubbed the protest harmful as security personnels were said to have destroyed transits used by commuters to access the venue of the protest.
