The Kebbi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has addressed a viral report claiming it rejected a N30 million donation from Governor Nasir Idris.
In a statement issued on Thursday, June 19, Venerable Ayyuba Kanta, the state chairman of CAN, refuted the claim, clarifying that the donation was not a personal gift to any individual pastor but was intended to support a two-day statewide crusade.
Kanta explained that the crusade was jointly organized by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and CAN in Kebbi State.
He further stated that Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche, who ministered at the event, has a long-standing policy of declining personal gifts during his evangelical missions. Instead, he recommended that the funds be directed toward humanitarian and developmental initiatives through CAN’s leadership.
As a result, the donation was used to construct a perimeter fence around the Christian cemetery, a project recently approved by Governor Idris.
CAN also expressed appreciation to the governor for his broader support, which included granting access to the state stadium for the crusade and facilitating the distribution of palliatives to students and women.
Kanta highlighted the cordial relationship between the Christian community and the Kebbi State Government, describing Governor Idris as a cheerful friend to all Christians and the CAN leadership in the state.
The association noted that these actions reflect the governorโs commitment to promoting interfaith harmony and supporting the Christian population in Kebbi State.
