The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 22 individuals in connection with the brutal killing of 12 wedding guests in Mangu Local Government Area.
The victims, who were traveling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Quaโan Pan LGA for a wedding ceremony, were ambushed by a violent mob after reportedly losing their way.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Friday, June 20, 2025, when armed youths attacked a commercial bus associated with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The bus, carrying 31 passengers, was intercepted around Kyarang junction in Manjul community. The attackers set the vehicle on fire, killing at least 12 people and injuring 19 others.
Police Public Relations Officer Alabo Alfred confirmed that the attack happened at approximately 9:47 p.m. The police responded swiftly after receiving credible intelligence, dispersing the mob and rescuing 21 passengers 14 of whom escaped uninjured.
The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations verified that the victims were merely wedding attendees who had mistakenly taken a wrong route.
Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina visited the crime scene and launched a thorough investigation. To support the ongoing probe, personnel from the State Intelligence Department (SID), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and tactical teams have been deployed to the area to prevent further violence and ensure the apprehension of all involved.
The Plateau State Command has strongly condemned the mob attack, urging citizens not to take the law into their hands. The police assured the public that justice would be served and encouraged people to maintain peace and report any suspicious activity through official emergency channels.
