The Delta State Police Command has re-arrested Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box, days after he was declared wanted for jumping bail in a case involving assault, threats to life, and violent obstruction of electricity officials.
The suspect, a self-styled activist and social media influencer notorious in Asaba for his repeated clashes with authorities, was tracked down less than 24 hours after the police publicly declared him wanted.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, in a statement on Friday, described him as “a serial menace to public peace” who has “always believed he was untouchable.”
According to the police account, the incident that triggered Ojei’s arrest occurred on May 29, 2025, when staff members of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) attempted to disconnect electricity at his residence on Anyameluhor Street, Asaba, due to an outstanding bill of ₦4,870,780.
The police said Ojei allegedly attacked the BEDC officials with a cutlass, forcing them to reconnect his compound out of fear for their lives.
A viral video obtained by the police reportedly captured Ojei threatening the officials, boasting that nothing would happen if he cut them with the weapon.
Ojei was captured shouting, “Why will you disconnect my house?” “You don’t know where you came to? Did you ask questions?” “Reconnect the light now!” “I go cut una, and nothing go happen.”
The suspect, who allegedly described himself as “Wong Box of Delta State,” further bragged that BEDC staff should ask questions next time because he is a “politician.”
In the midst of the chaos, one of the BEDC workers, a woman who was pregnant at the time, fell during the commotion. Witnesses alleged that Ojei charged at her with the cutlass, sending her into shock. She was later hospitalised for more than two weeks.
Edafe said the violent episode shocked many in the community, but residents were not entirely surprised, given Ojei’s reputation.
“He has always boasted that he is a politician, that nothing can happen to him, and that he can do anything he likes,” one resident told Reporters. “People fear him, not because he is powerful, but because he is reckless.”
Following the incident, Ojei was arrested on August 14, 2025, and charged with multiple offences, including assault occasioning harm, threatening violence, and issuing threats to life. However, he was later granted bail to allow further investigation.
Rather than return to face justice, the suspect reportedly absconded, ignoring police summons and attempts to reach him.
The Delta Police Command eventually declared him wanted on Friday, August 29.
By Friday evening, the suspect was back in custody, Edafe said, noting that Ojei would be arraigned “soonest” to face his charges.
“This time, the law will take its full course. We will ensure the suspect faces justice without interference,” the officer stated.
“He calls himself an activist, but everybody in Asaba knows him for violence,” another source told Reporters. “He uses social media to project himself as if he’s fighting for people, but in reality, he is feared for using threats and intimidation to get his way,” he added.
