President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Ude (SAN) from Enugu State as a minister.
The request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday.
Tinubu said the nomination was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to appoint ministers subject to Senate confirmation.
Dr. Ude’s nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, who stepped down last month amid controversies surrounding his academic qualifications, including questions over a degree allegedly obtained from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.
Nnaji’s resignation left Enugu State without representation in the Federal Executive Council, prompting calls for his prompt replacement.
Dr. Ude, who currently serves as the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, was recently elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in recognition of his contributions to the legal profession.
