Asherkine, the Nigerian content creator, has broken his silence following widespread backlash over his recent video, in which he flew a woman he met at a canteen in Ogun state to Cape Town, South Africa.
The controversy began after Asherkine, known for his philanthropic content, posted a video of himself meeting a young lady identified as Chiamaka Clare, who claimed to work at a local canteen.
The video showed him inviting her for a post-Valentine’s Day date in Lagos, where he treated her to a shopping spree, gifts, and dinner.
He then surprised the visibly emotional Chiamaka with a fully paid trip to Cape Town, documenting their outings in the city.
However, what seemed like a heartwarming gesture quickly sparked skepticism online.
Social media users questioned the authenticity of the video, with many alleging the encounter was staged or scripted.
Some dug into Chiamaka’s social media accounts, arguing that her online presence — suggesting she may be a model and interior decorator who had recently travelled abroad — did not align with the image of a “simple canteen worker.”
The speculation intensified, leading to broader criticism of Asherkine’s previous philanthropic content, with some users questioning whether his past videos were also fabricated.
In a lengthy post on X, Asherkine dismissed the claims while defending Chiamaka.
He argued that critics were unfairly judging based on stereotypes, refusing to believe that a young, well-presented woman could be working at a canteen while striving for a better life.
“I may understand that a bunch of people cannot fathom a young adult living and working in Ogun state, trying to make a way for themselves because she ‘looks too good’ for such a job. This person has a sister living in Lagos, it’s a 2 hr drive and she is 21, I have cousins in Ogun state ffs,” he wrote.
”I was 17 filming entertainers at events just to ‘chase something’ from unilag. I was exactly 20 after grad juggling Ikotun & Chevron to be with Yhemolee , Asake and Ashidapo to document everything I could until YL started paying me and got me to film Olamide & Asake ‘Omo Ope’ and it was up from there.”

The content creator also clarified misconceptions about the timeline of the video, emphasising that the events did not unfold in a single day as some viewers assumed.
“I really do understand agenda agending but I won’t let some silly takes ruin this one for her or let y’all undermine videos I create. I understand that most of my videos span through the progression of a day but this video spanned over a week after our first meet. I’m unsure how it looks like a 48hr livestream,” he added.
