No fewer than two herders and two others have been killed in yet another attack in villages at Barikin Ladi, Jos, and Riyom local government area of Plateau State.
The latest attack followed recent attacks in Anguwan Rukuba communities of Jos North Local Government Area of the state, where 28 people were confirmed killed when gunmen invaded the community on Sunday.
On the latest development, the leadership of Berom Youth Moulder Association (BYM) and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) accused each other of launching the attack.
Narrating their story, Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), said gunmen stormed Ban community, opposite Plateau State Polytechnic, in Barik Ladi, killing two and injuring two others.
Tengwong said the gunmen stormed the area around 11 pm and opened sporadic fire on victims, adding that the shooting triggered panic among students of the Polytechnic, especially those living off-campus.
He added that in Riyom LGA, a 27-year-old, Amos Monday, a resident of Du’a village in Kwi Ward, was killed when gunmen ambushed some youths between Baten village in Wereng Ward and Du’a village in Kwi Ward at about 8:15 pm.
He advised residents of Kwi, Wereng and neighbouring communities in Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom to remain vigilant.
In a related development, the state chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed that two people – Abdulrazak Salisu and Shapi’u Idris – were killed in separate attacks on Wednesday in communities in Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs.
According to MACBAN, the incident occurred while the victims were grazing in the areas, adding that he had reported the case to security forces including the Police, GOC, and DSS.
The MACBAN chairman said, “It was an unprovoked attack because they were grazing. The perpetrators just attacked and killed them. We have reported the incidents to security agencies in the state. The bodies were evacuated with the police and other security personnel.
“Abdulrazak Salisu was killed around Airport General area about 4 pm on 1st April 2026 while he was grazing peacefully. On the same day, one Shapi’u Idris was also killed around Gero area of Jos South LGA at 5 pm. After killing him, he was beheaded by his killers,” the Chairman added.
While MACBAN chairman denied the allegation of killing the farmers against its members, the Publicity Secretary of Berom Youth Moulders Association is yet to pick up calls or respond to WhatsApp messages from our correspondent regarding the allegations against his members.
Contacted about the development, the spokesperson of Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycap Oteh, said he would find out and get back to our correspondent but as at press time, he hadn’t responded.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, for comment proved abortive as he was attending a function at press time.
