The Nigerian Police Force has unsealed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, and the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House.
The two party offices, which were sealed by the police on November 18 after the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and the caretaker committee chaired by Abdulrahman Mohammed clashed at Wadata Plaza, were unsealed on Saturday.
The Turaki-led NWC is backed by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, while the Mohammed leadership is supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The PDP became polarised in the aftermath of the opposition party’s national convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where the Turaki-led NWC was elected. A Federal High Court, Abuja, had earlier directed the PDP not to proceed with the exercise until it complied with extant laws.
On November 19, party supporters loyal to the Makinde and Wike blocs clashed at Wadata Plaza, leading to a stand-off involving the Oyo State governor and his Bauchi counterpart on one hand and the FCT minister on the other.
A few days later, Wike’s loyalists set up a caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the opposition party pending the conduct of a fresh convention.
On March 9, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, nullified the Ibadan convention. In the aftermath of the judgment, there were moves to reconcile the two camps, without success.
Thereafter, the Turaki-led NWC appealed to the Supreme Court, while the Wike bloc held its own convention on March 29 and 30 in Abuja, where it elected a new NWC headed by Mohammed.
In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Mohammed-led NWC, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the bloc said the police, after unsealing the two PDP offices, handed them over to its leadership.
The statement read: “the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) hereby informs all members and the general public that the Party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, as well as The Legacy House, Maitama, have been unsealed by the Nigeria Police Force and handed over to the National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary in full compliance with duly issued court orders.
“The party commends the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism and adherence to the rule of law. This action is a clear demonstration of respect for constitutional order and due process.
“The Party strongly warns that it will not condone any act capable of causing obstruction, disruption, or breach of peace at the secretariat again. All individuals and groups are advised to conduct themselves within the bounds of the law, as security agencies have been duly alerted to take necessary action against violators.
“This positive development reassures members that the recent challenges confronting the Party have been effectively resolved. We therefore call on all aggrieved members to sheath their swords and embrace unity in the collective interest of the Party.”
