Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani has faulted United States President, Donald Trump’s verbal attack on Pope Leo XIV, describing it as an onslaught on the spirit of humanity.
Trump launched a surprising scathing attack on the Catholic pontiff over the latter’s criticism of US immigration policy and the war in Iran.
In a Truth Social post, Trump accused Pope Leo of being “weak on crime and terrible for foreign policy”.
In a Monday post on X, Sani equated the US President’s attack on the pope to an attack on the “spirit of humanity”.
He said, “Pope Leo’s views and positions about wars reflect the views of not just Catholics but also that of other billions of reasonable people around the World.
“Trump’s attacks on Pope Leo is an attack on the spirit of humanity.
“There’s no sensible man that will support an unnecessary war whose main casualties are innocent civilians.
“Killing children and women is not strength,it’s war crimes.
“‘The Lord will not answer the prayers of those who wage wars.’”
