The United States Mission in Nigeria has extended its condolences to the Nigerian people following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a leader whose life was marked by discipline, public service, and a strong commitment to restoring integrity in governance.
In a statement on Sunday, the U.S. Mission said it was deeply saddened by the passing of the former Nigerian leader and joined Nigerians in mourning a man whose tenure and influence left a significant mark on the country’s democratic evolution.
“The U.S. Mission in Nigeria extends our deepest condolences to the people of Nigeria on the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, a leader whose life was defined by service, discipline, and a commitment to restore integrity to public office,” the statement read.
Highlighting the late president’s contributions to democratic development, the U.S. noted: “His legacy includes his efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions.”
The Mission concluded by expressing solidarity with Buhari’s family and the broader Nigerian population, saying, “Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and all Nigerians who mourn this loss.”
