The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has strongly denied Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s claim that he promised President Bola Tinubu to “hold the PDP” for him ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an end-of-year media briefing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Wike dismissed the allegation as unfounded and misleading.
“That is a blatant lie,” Wike said. “Seyi Makinde has never called me Wike. That is the first time I have heard him calling me Wike. It’s unfortunate.”
He clarified that the only post-2023 election meeting involving Makinde and other PDP figures was a courtesy visit to President Tinubu, attended by former governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Makinde, and the President’s Chief of Staff.
Wike questioned why Makinde did not raise the alleged discussion with PDP leadership at the time, adding, “He doesn’t even have the guts to tell us he is running for president.”
The remarks highlight growing tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following Makinde’s earlier comments in Ibadan, where he expressed surprise at Wike’s purported pledge and distanced himself from supporting Tinubu in 2027.
