Two police inspectors have been killed and three rifles stolen, following an attack on a Distress Response Squad (DRS) patrol along Zik Avenue, near Good Shepherd Specialist Hospital in Enugu state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency news platform, the incident occurred at about 8:30pm on Saturday, when six armed men, suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, attacked the patrol team.
The assailants, who were operating from an ash-coloured Lexus RX 350 SUV, set the patrol Hilux vehicle ablaze during the assault.
The slain officers were identified as Valentine Iheme and Ani Anayo.
The assailants also carted away three AK-47 rifles, each loaded with 30 rounds of live ammunition.
Sources said all tactical teams and assets of the command have been activated and deployed in pursuit of the suspects to neutralise them and recover the stolen firearms.
The Enugu state police command has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
