Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has appointed Elohor Aiboni as Executive Vice President and Country Chair Nigeria. She succeeds Marno de Jong, making her the first Nigerian to hold the combined leadership position.
Elohor Aiboni brings more than 24 years of experience within Shell, having worked across offshore, shallow water and onshore operations in Nigeria, as well as in international assignments in Kazakhstan and Brunei.
First Nigerian in combined leadership role
Elohor Aiboni became Managing Director of SNEPCo in 2021, becoming the first woman to lead the company’s deepwater business in Nigeria. During her tenure, she oversaw deepwater operations and investments, including the Bonga asset, which achieved its one billionth barrel of oil milestone in 2023.
In 2024, she moved to Brunei as Asset Director, where she has been responsible for asset performance, production, and project delivery.
Leadership transition
Marno de Jong has led Shell’s operations in Nigeria since 2020, when he was appointed Senior Vice President Nigeria. He later assumed the additional responsibilities of Executive Vice President and Country Chair, overseeing Shell’s businesses across the country.
He originally joined Shell in 1992 as a Project Engineer at the start of a career that has seen him serve across Project Delivery, Engineering, Commercial, and Upstream Development in the United Kingdom, Venezuela, Nigeria, Australia, the United States, the Netherlands, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Under his leadership, Nigeria’s flagship Bonga asset delivered strong performance, sustaining high availability well above target. Additionally, he has been instrumental in advancing major key investment decisions, including the HI offshore gas project and the Bonga North development.
Marno de Jong: “I’m grateful for the support I have enjoyed since my time in Nigeria which has enabled us to achieve progress on many fronts. I leave with fond memories of warm friendships and strong support from colleagues in Shell and our partners. I’m confident that Shell operations in Nigeria will continue to deliver value and growth under Elohor, given the strong leadership credentials she brings to the roles and wish Shell Nigeria every success.”
Elohor Aiboni: “I’m excited at the opportunity to continue to contribute to the efficient delivery of Shell’s business in Nigeria and thereby power progress in a country we’ve been part of for more than 60 years. Marno has led from his heart these six plus years, sustaining operations and breaking new grounds in project delivery and growth. It’s a legacy I’m keen to build on with the support of colleagues and other stakeholders.”
Focus on continuity and growth
The appointment marks a leadership transition for Shell’s Nigerian operations as the company continues to pursue major offshore oil and gas developments. Elohor Aiboni’s experience across multiple business segments and international markets is expected to support the company’s ongoing investment and production activities in Nigeria.
