The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has restored four previously suppressed state houses of assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states.
In a statement on Friday, Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s information and voter education committee chairman, said the decision followed court judgments directing their restoration.
Haruna said the constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II in Delta state, and Yagba West II in Kogi state.
He said the commission has fixed August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries for the restored constituencies.
The national commissioner said the exercise would coincide with scheduled party primaries for by-elections.
“This coincides with the period for the conduct of primaries for bye-elections to fill recent vacancies into Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye federal constituency of Gombe state, Disina and Sakwa state constituencies of Bauchi state, Udu state constituency of Delta state, and Dawakin Kudu state constituency of Kano state. Elections into these constituencies have been fixed for 19th September, 2026,” the statement reads.
Haruna stated that the timelines and activities contained in the already published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election would apply to the restored constituencies.
He added that political parties should submit notices of their primaries to the commission before the scheduled dates.
