Controversies trailed Nasir El-Rufai’s solemn, pious declaration as the former governor of Kaduna State stated brazenly that he has never collected either bribes or kickbacks from any contractor working in the state.
To further entrench his stance on piety, the governor dared anyone with receipts or evidence of his receipt of bribes to publicize them.
โI have never stolen a kobo from anyone. If any contractor has given me a bribe, let him come forward,โ El-Rufai stated.
This declaration came shortly after El-Rufai accused the incumbent governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, of corrupt practices.
“Uba goes to Abuja with contract documents, offering them to contractors in exchange for a 40 percent kickback. We know what is happening.
โThey assumed that was how we ran the government, but they are wrong,โ El-Rufai added.
Speaking further, Nasir El-Rufai expressed that several contractors who carried out projects when he was governor were investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai claimed he never had a one-on-one deal with any contractor, as he worked through commissioners and permanent secretaries.
โI worked only through commissioners and permanent secretaries,โ he stated.
