The suspended Rivers State governor, Siminalaye Fubara, has reportedly moved out of the Government House in Port Harcourt hours after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the state.
Fubara was reported to have moved out in the early hours of Wednesday, the 19th of March, 2025, to afford the newly appointed Sole Administrator, retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the luxury of time and opportunity to assume his position and discharge his duties effectively.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a security personnel confirmed the smooth transition of power, also stating that the old security personnel had been replaced with new ones.
โThe governor left Government House this morning, and the new administrator is yet to resume. We are expecting him any moment from now. The security details in Government House have been reshuffled. I can tell you that everywhere is calm, and nothing is happening as we speak now,โ the source said.
Correspondents gathered that on Wednesday, the 19th of March, at the Government House, the presence of security personnel was palpable, with at least three armored personnel carriers firmly positioned at the main entrance.
The latest development will see Vice Admiral Ibas tentatively overseeing the administration of Rivers State.
The interim government was necessitated by the prolonged political upheavals in the state. This upheaval has also led to the six-month suspension of the state’s governor, Siminalaye Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the state house of assembly.
