Zimbabwe’s head coach, Michael Nees, has praised the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for providing top-tier training facilities as the Warriors prepare for a crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles on Tuesday.
Currently at the bottom of their qualification group, Zimbabwe faces a daunting challenge, especially with Nigeria coming off a convincing 2-0 victory over Rwanda. Despite the pressure, Nees has commended the hospitality and training conditions provided by the NFF, which he believes will aid his squad’s preparations.
Nees Applauds Nigeria’s Hospitality and Training Conditions
Speaking to the Warriors’ media team, Nees expressed his appreciation for the warm reception in Nigeria. “The hotel is spacious and comfortable, and we’ve settled in well. Though we faced a slight delay due to a canceled flight, which set us back a few hours, we have no complaints. This was previously the base for the Nigerian team before they relocated to another hotel,” he stated.
Beyond the accommodation, Nees was particularly impressed by the quality of the training pitch, highlighting its superior condition. “The playing surface is soft, not too hard, making it ideal for training. I expect the stadium pitch to be even better,” he added.
Managing Travel Fatigue Ahead of the Big Match
While pleased with the facilities, Nees acknowledged that his squad is still recovering from the strain of travel. “Our intensity isn’t quite where it needs to be yet, so we’re carefully managing the players’ workload. Travel fatigue is always a factor, but so far, everything looks promising,” he explained.

As the World Cup qualification campaign nears its midpoint, Nees recognizes the formidable challenge posed by the Super Eagles. “Nigeria is a top-class team with immense talent. They had a shaky start with multiple coaching changes, but their recent win against Rwanda shows they’re determined to regain their footing,” he observed.
