The family of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former Governor of Oyo State, has announced his passing, just days before what would have been his 90th birthday.
In an official statement issued by Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the family, Dr. Olunloyo was described as a brilliant mathematician, engineer, and respected technocrat whose legacy of service remains a source of pride.
“With heavy hearts but deep gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo,” the statement read. “A former Governor of Oyo State, distinguished mathematician, engineer, and renowned public servant, his lifelong dedication to the nation and humanity continues to inspire all who knew him.”
Dr. Olunloyo had famously debunked false rumors of his death in April 2024, saying, “I’m still here, not yet gone.” At the time, he had expressed concern over the disturbing trend of premature death announcements, remarking that death is inevitable for all, including those spreading such rumors.
Dr. Victor Olunloyo leaves behind a towering legacy in both public service and academia, remembered fondly by family, friends, and the nation at large.
